What is life coaching?
I am often asked this question when I tell people I am a life coach. A couple years ago I didn’t know the answer myself. Better yet, I didn’t know life coaching existed. It wasn’t until I was on the World Race I was first exposed.
I was asked to be a squad leader for my squad of 40. My ministry and role was caring for my squad mates. I had one on one conversations with each person, prayed with them, walked along with them through their struggles, and celebrated with them during their victories. I absolutely loved it! When asked by my squad coach Gary what I enjoyed about squad leading, I shared all of this with him. That’s when he told me, “Everything you just shared is what a life coach does.” Seriously?! I could get paid for this? Needless to say the quest began to learn more. Fast forward a year a a half after returning from this mission trip, I received my certification as a life coach.
So what is a life coach? A coach helps to build the vision and plan to tackle a life’s dream and goal of a client. Deal with the immediate obstacles that are preventing growth. A coach asks questions to get the client to come up with the answers themselves, because as a client deep down you know what you want, but you may need the correct prompting and guidance to find the answer.
Future focused and goal oriented. Bridging the gap from where you are to where you want to be.
It has been a wild ride ever since becoming a coach, but I wouldn’t change it for anything! My first year was all about learning and trying to figure this thing out, which I still feel like I am doing. I have stepped into being an entrepreneur which is a whole new life in itself. As I was trying to figure out my niche, I began thinking back to my missionary life. When I returned home, I really struggled and wish I had someone to help me and offer advice. Someone I could turn to who had been through what I was going through. That was it! I would be a coach for returning missionaries.
I reached out to my squad mentor from the World Race, Jeremy Cearbaugh, and told him my idea. He said I must connect with Bruce Neurohr. Bruce is the founder of M2B Ministries and had started the very thing I had a vision of doing. But I am no business expert, so it was nice to partner with one. Since my first conversation with Bruce, I knew this is where God wanted me to be. I have a heart to help those who are in a position I once was in, which is why I am here.
As the coaching enthusiast of M2B and it is my vision and goal to create a coaching branch within this ministry. I want to create resources and a network of coaches for missionaries to connect with as they feel the need. Your short term mission trip is only the beginning. It’s a launching pad for the next season of your life, but you may need help figuring out what that is.
3 Questions to consider if YOU need a coach:
1. Do I feel stuck where I am and I don’t know how to get out?
2. Do I feel my life has no direction and I don’t know which steps to take?
3. I hear people talk about goals but I don’t know how to set them for myself. It sounds overwhelming so I don’t make goals.
